Man Charged in Armed Robbery Near Wollongong

A man has been charged following an alleged armed robbery and wounding in the Illawarra nearly five years ago.

About 6.50pm on Tuesday 7 September 2020, police were called to a store on Cabbage Tree Lane, Fairy Meadow, following reports of an armed robbery.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District responded and were told three males entered the store, when one allegedly stabbed the male store attendant in the thigh before stealing cash and cigarettes.

Two other store attendants were allegedly held by the other two males but were not physically injured.

The three left the store, last seen heading south onto Vereker Street, Fairy Meadow.

Following a renewed appeal for information last month, about 10am yesterday (Tuesday 24 June 2025), a 23-year-old man was arrested at Wollongong Police Station.

He was charged with robbery armed with an offensive weapon cause wounding. He was refused bail and appeared in Wollongong Local Court yesterday.

As investigations continue, police are appealing for information to identify another male who could assist with their inquiries.

He was, at the time, aged in his late teens, early 20s, a fair/tanned complexion but with his face covered with a red mask, wearing a black hooded jumper and black pants with a white stripe. He was carrying a black and white backpack.
