A man has been charged following a fatal multi-vehicle crash in the state's south-west last month.
About 8.20am on Wednesday 20 May 2026, emergency services were called to the intersection of Dansons Road and Sturt Highway in Trentham Cliffs, 10km north-east of Mildura, following reports of a multi-vehicle crash.
Officers attached to Barrier Police District attended the scene and were told a van had rear-ended a vehicle, causing the vehicle to collide with a B-double truck travelling the opposite way.
Ambulance Victoria paramedics treated a 51-year-old man; however, he died at the scene.
There were no other injuries reported.
A 48-year-old driver was taken to Mildura Base Hospital for mandatory testing.
Officers attached to Barrier Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.
A report was prepared for the information of the Coroner.
About 8.15am today (Tuesday 16 June 2026), police arrested a 48-year-old man at Dareton Police Station in relation to an outstanding warrant for traffic offences.
He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death-drive manner dangerous, and negligent driving (occasioning death). His licence was also suspended.
The man was refused bail and faced Bail Division Court 4 today (Tuesday 16 June 2026), where he was granted strict conditional bail to reappear before Wentworth Local Court on Tuesday 4 August 2026.
