Man Charged in Moree Aggravated Break-Ins

A man has faced court charged with several alleged break and enters in Moree yesterday.

Officers attached to New England Police District commenced an investigation following reports of several break and enters at separate locations in Moree.

The incidents are alleged to have occurred between 12.15am and 2.15am on Wednesday 7 May 2025.

About 12.15am, two men, allegedly armed with knives attempted gain entry into two units on Auburn Street, Moree; however, left the scene when they were disturbed by the occupants.

About 1am, police will allege the same two men attended a motel on the Carnavon Highway and forced entry into a room.

The men were confronted by a 65-year-old man who sustained a laceration to his forehead following a physical altercation.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to Moree District Hospital in a stable condition.

About 2.05am, police were called to a unit block on Alice Street, Moree, after reports two men attempted to force entry into a unit, without success.

Shortly after a 72-year-old man in the same unit block sustained an injury to his lip after he confronted two men who had allegedly forced entry into his unit.

He was treated at the scene and taken to Moree District Hospital for further treatment.

About 2.10am police were called to a motel on Alice Street, where they were told two men attempted to gain entry to a room before leaving when they were confronted by an employee.

Following inquiries, about 3.50am police arrested a 21-year-old man on Jones Avenue, Moree, following a foot pursuit.

He was taken to Moree District Hospital under police guard before he was released and taken to Moree Police Station.

He was charged with five counts of aggravated break and enter with intent – armed, aggravated break and enter with intent – knowing person there, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, escape police custody and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.

He was refused bail and appeared before Armidale Local Court yesterday (Wednesday 7 May 2025), where he was formally refused bail and will appear before Moree Local Court on Monday 12 May 2025.
