Man charged over attempted kidnapping in Burwood

Police have charged a man with attempted kidnapping after a woman was allegedly dragged into a car at Burwood last weekend, NSW Police say.

About 10.15am on Sunday 4 June 2017, a 27-year-old woman was walking on the footpath in Burwood Crescent towards the railway station.

As she reached the Park Road intersection, she was approached by a man who spoke to her.

The woman attempted to walk around the man and it’s alleged he grabbed her and dragged her towards a car on the opposite side of the road.

Police will allege in court the man punched the woman in the face, breaking her glasses, before throwing her into the rear of the car.

When a witness driving past stopped to assist, the woman ran from the rear of car and the man drove off.

The incident was reported to police and an investigation commenced by Burwood detectives.

About 2.30pm today, police from Northern Beaches Local Area Command spotted the vehicle believed to be involved in traffic at Frenchs Forest.

They spoke to the 26-year-old male driver, before arresting him and taking him to Manly Police Station.

He was charged with attempted kidnapping and will appear before Parramatta Bail Court tomorrow.
