Man charged over church break-in in Wollongong

A man has been charged over an alleged break and enter at a church in Wollongong, NSW Police say.

About 6.50am today (Sunday 28 October 2018), police were called a church on Stewart Street, after reports of a break and enter occurring at the location.

Officers from Wollongong Police District arrived a short time later and arrested a 38-year-old man inside the building.

He was also allegedly located in possession of housebreaking implements.

The man was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with break and enter with intent to steal and possess housebreaking implements.

He was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court tomorrow (Monday 29 October 2018).

"Our police were on scene within only a couple of minutes of being called, affecting the arrest of this man before he even had time to leave the church.

"We were alerted by a member of the community who saw the man acting suspiciously and a prompt call to Triple Zero meant we received the information straight away," Inspector Walker said.
