A man will appear in court today after allegedly producing a handgun and threatening several people at Cronulla overnight, NSW Police say.
About 10.30pm yesterday today, a 20-year-old man was walking with several friends along Gerrale Street when three males walking behind started to yell at them.
The males caught up with the 20-year-old and his friends.
One of the trio produced a black handgun and pointed it at the young man.
The 20-year-old and his friends ran to a nearby licensed premises and joined the queue outside the venue.
The armed man approached the queue and attempted to instigate an altercation, allegedly lifting his shirt and showing the handgun that was tucked into his pants, on several occasions.
Security staff intervened and confronted the armed man who left the area in a vehicle.
Police were alerted and officers from Miranda stopped the vehicle in Waratah Street shortly afterwards.
A 21-year-old man was arrested and a handgun, later identified as a replica, was located in the vehicle and seized.
The man was taken to Miranda Police Station and later charged with possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, common assault, stalk/intimidate with intent to fear physical harm, being armed with intent to commit indictable offence and offensive behaviour.
The man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today.
