Man charged over Heidelberg West collision

A man has been charged following an incident in Heidelberg West early yesterday morning (3 September), Victoria Police say.

Police observed an allegedly stolen vehicle travelling at speed along Murray Road, Preston about midnight, however the car failed to stop when they attempted to intercept.

A short time later, the vehicle allegedly drove through a red light and collided with another car at the intersection of Southern Road and Waterdale Road, Heidelberg West.

Two male occupants fled the scene on foot.

One of the men, a 44-year-old Reservoir man, has been charged with a range of offences including theft of motor vehicle, handle stolen goods, evade police, speeding, careless driving, driving while disqualified, and failing to render assistance after an accident.

He has been remanded to appear at the Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on 8 September.

Police are still searching for the second occupant of the car.

The vehicle is described as being a red 1991 Toyota Lexcen with registration NMK105.

Anyone who may have witnessed the vehicle prior to or at the time of the collision, or who may have dash cam footage, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
