Man charged over indecent assault in East Richmond

A man has been charged over the alleged indecent assault of a woman in Sydney’s North West last week.

About 10pm on Friday (23 September 2016), a 40-year-old woman boarded a train in Sydney, heading to East Richmond.

When the train reached Blacktown, a 21-year-old man boarded the train and sat near the woman, allegedly conducting an indecent act upon himself.

The woman moved away from the man and about 10.30pm she got off the train at East Richmond Railway Station.

The 21-year-old man also got off the train and followed her, NSW Police say.

While she was walking on Windsor Street, Richmond, the man allegedly grabbed the woman from behind, committing an indecent assault on her before running away.

The incident was reported to detectives from Hawkesbury Local Area Command who commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, about 1.15pm today, the 21-year-old man was arrested at Penrith Railway Station.

He was taken to Penrith Police Station where he was charged with assault with act of indecency; commit act of indecency with person 16 years or over; and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Penrith Local Court on 24 October 2016.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
