Man charged over jewelry theft, NSW

A man has been arrested and charged in relation to the theft of over $60,000 in jewelry in the Lake Macquarie region, NSW Police say.

Police from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command have been investigating multiple stealing offences, in particular the theft of rings with a value of over $60,000 from a jewellers at Charlestown on Sunday 24 September 2017.

Following extensive inquiries, about 2.50pm today, police attended an address on Mcelwee Drive, Tingera Heights, where they arrested a 25-year-old man, who was also allegedly in breach of an Apprehended Domestic Violence Order at the time.

He was taken to Belmont Police Station and charged with larceny greater than $15,000; intimidation (x2); armed with intent; stealing, armed to avoid apprehension; and breach AVO.

He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court tomorrow.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
