Man charged over police pursuits in Sydney's east

About 12.30am today, officers from Central Metropolitan Traffic and Highway Patrol attempted to stop at Ford Ranger on Anzac Parade at Kingsford after it was detected travelling 55km/h in a 40km/h zone.

A pursuit was initiated after the driver allegedly failed to stop.

It’s alleged while accelerating from police, the Ranger crashed into the back of a stationary police vehicle, causing damage.

The pursuit was terminated due to dangerous driving and was commenced a short time later when the vehicle was spotted on Dwyer Avenue at Little Bay.

Officers attached to Eastern Beaches Local Area Command deployed road spikes on Anzac Parade, damaging the vehicle’s tyre; however, the driver again failed to stop.

The pursuit continued for a further 20 minutes through Kingsford and Maroubra before road spikes were successfully deployed on Gale Avenue at Maroubra.

The vehicle stopped and a 43-year-old man was arrested after a short foot pursuit.

He was taken to Maroubra Police Station where he was charged with two counts of police pursuit, along with one count each of drive manner dangerous and resist arrest.

The Botany man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today.
