Man charged over shooting - Woonona, near Wollongong, NSW

A man has been charged following investigations into a shooting in Wollongong last week, NSW Police say.

Just after 2.30pm on Wednesday 21 September 2016, emergency services were called to Mountain Avenue, Woonona, after a man reported he had been shot.

Police will allege the 29-year-old man was shot in nearby Joanne Street before getting into his car and driving to Mountain Avenue.

He suffered facial injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in Sydney in a serious but stable condition.

The man’s injuries were not considered life threatening and he has since been released from hospital.

Detectives from Wollongong Local Area Command commenced Strike Force Bunko to investigate the incident.

Following investigations, about 10.15am today, a 28-year-old man attended Wollongong Police Station where he was arrested.

He was charged with shoot at with intent to murder and refused bail to attend Wollongong Local Court today.

Inquiries by Strike Force Bunko detectives are continuing and further arrests are expected.
