Man charged over stabbing in Toronto

A man has been charged after a stabbing at Toronto early this morning, NSW Police say.

About 5.20am today, emergency services were called to Shelley Street, Toronto, following reports of an assault.

Police will allege two men – aged 41 and 43 – were involved in a physical altercation, when the younger man was allegedly stabbed.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command attended and arrested a 43-year-old man from Quirindi.

He was taken to Belmont Police Station and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The man was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court tomorrow.
