Man charged over stolen property in Tweed/Byron

Police have seized large amounts of stolen property during a search at the home of a member of the Lone Wolf outlaw motorcycle gang (OMCG) in the state’s north, NSW Police say.

Officers from Tweed/Byron Target Action Group conducted a Firearm Prohibition Order (FPO) search at a home on Chinderah Bay Drive, Chinderah about 11.30am on Wednesday 18 April 2018.

Police located and seized a large quantity of alleged stolen property, including power tools, motor bikes, computers, alcohol, and bicycles. Police estimate the property seized to be in excess of $100,000. Police also seized ammunition.

A 41-year-old man was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station.

He was charged with receive/dispose stolen property, goods suspected stolen in/on premises, acquire etc ammunition subject to prohibition order, firearm etc found at premises-subject to prohibition order, and breach of bail.

A second man, aged 41, was also arrested at the home and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station. He was charged with an outstanding warrant, and possess prohibited drug.

Both men appeared at Byron Bay Local Court and are due to reappear at Tweed Heads Local Court on Wednesday 23 May 2018.

As a result of further inquiries, officers executed a search warrant at a Kingscliff storage facility yesterday (Friday 20 April 2018).

Police located and seized a large quantity of alleged stolen property, including five surf boards, tools, computers, and bicycles. Police estimate the property seized to be in excess of $70,000.

Further charges are anticipated.

Police are urging anyone who has recently had property stolen to contact Tweed/Byron police with a detailed description, and photographs or identification numbers if possible.
