Man charged over suspicious house fire in Queenstown, TAS

A 32 year old Queenstown man has been charged with one count of Arson and minor drugs related offences following a suspicious house fire in Queenstown overnight, Tasmania Police say.

Shortly after 10pm on Tuesday 9 May 2017, Tasmania Police and the Tasmania Fire Service responded to a house fire in Bury Street, Queenstown.

Upon the arrival of emergency services the residence was totally engulfed by flames. The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished, however the property has suffered extensive damage and is considered a total loss.

At the time of the fire the residence was unoccupied and no injuries were reported.

Police conducted immediate investigations into the fire which resulted in a man being taken into custody.

The 32 year old Queenstown man was bailed to appear at the Queenstown Magistrates Court at a later date.
