Man charged over the disappearance and murder of 12-year-old girl in 1998, NSW

A man has been charged with the alleged murder of a girl who went missing from Granville in 1998, NSW Police say.

Detectives from Rosehill Local Area Command, with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, commenced Strike Force Lyndey to investigate the disappearance of Quanne Diec, a 12-year-old girl who went missing on her way to school from her home in Granville on Monday 27 July 1998.

About 3.40pm today, a 49-year-old man attended Surry Hills Police Station to speak with detectives about the incident.

He was subsequently arrested and charged with murder and refused bail to appear at Central Local Court tomorrow.
