Man charged over threats, NSW

A man will appear in court today after allegedly making threats at Sydney Opera House yesterday.

About 11.20am today, officers from Sydney City Local Area Command and Sydney Opera House security were alerted to a man allegedly acting suspiciously in the forecourt.

The 18-year-old man was detained without incident. The man's backpack was seized and is undergoing forensic examination.

Officers from the NSW Police Terrorism Investigations Squad commenced an investigation into the incident.

A search warrant was later carried out at the man’s home in Narwee, where a number of items were seized for examination.

The man was interviewed and charged overnight with threatening to destroy or damage property (Crimes Act 1900 - Sec 199).

He has been refused bail and will appear at Central Local Court tomorrow.
