Man charged, police seize cannabis and cash in Newcastle

A man has been charged after cannabis plants were seized and more than $12,000 cash was located in Newcastle today, NSW Police say.

About 6.45am today, police stopped a Holden Commodore at Bar Beach and spoke to the driver, a 37-year-old man.

A search of the vehicle resulted in police locating and seizing cannabis.

Following inquiries, officers from the Newcastle City Target Action Group executed a search warrant at a home on Light Street, Bar Beach, just before 10.30am today.

During the search, officers allegedly located a hydroponic setup in a hidden room at the property and seized 21 cannabis plants, about 4kg of cannabis heads and more than $12,000 cash.

The 37-year-old man was arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with seven offences, including:

- Supply prohibited drug (x2)

- Possess prohibited drug (x2)

- Cultivate prohibited plant

- Possess prohibited plant

- Knowingly deal with property proceeds of crime

The man was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court tomorrow.
