Man Charged Under Operation Soteria

A man will face court today following an investigation into break and enter incidents in the state's west.

Operation Soteria is a strategic initiative focusing on aggravated break, enter and steal offences, stealing motor vehicles, and 'post and boast' offences where social media is used to gain notoriety.

About 1:30pm on Friday 5 December 2025, officer attached to barrier Police District Highway patrol were patrolling the Dareton area when they observed a 20-year-old man acting suspiciously.

Police approached the man before conducting a search. During the search, the man allegedly reached under his shirt producing a glass pipe and threw it, causing it to shatter on the roadway.

Police also allegedly located 1 gram of methylamine, a shank knife, house breaking implements, gloves, a folding knife, portable radios, jewellery, handheld aerial, Australian pennies, two sets of motor vehicle keys, along with numerous other items suspected of being stolen.

The man was arrested and taken to Dareton Police station where he was charged with:

  • Receive property stolen outside NSW <$200,
  • Littering dangerous materials in/on public place,
  • Goods in personal custody suspected of being stolen,
  • Possess house-breaking implements,
  • Have custody of an offensive implement in a public place,
  • Custody of a knife in a public place, and
  • Possess prohibited drug

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Court 4 today (Saturday 6 December 2025).
