Man charged with aggravated break and enter in Lake Illawarra

Police responding to reports of suspicious activity in the Lake Illawarra region this morning have charged a man with aggravated break and enter, NSW Police say.

About 9.30am today, a concerned member of the community contacted police to report a person acting suspiciously in Collie Way, Albion Park.

Officers arrived on the scene a short time later and observed a man inside a residence.

It will be alleged the man ran into the backyard of the home, jumped a fence and ran through a neighbouring yard before jumping another fence onto Helena Street where he was stopped by police and arrested.

Police seized a number of items suspected of being stolen as well as a knife and a screw driver.

A 26-year-old man was charged with aggravated break and enter and commit strictly indictable offence and refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court tomorrow.

Police encourage any person who notices suspicious activity in their neighbourhood to call their local police station, the Police Assistance Line on 131 444 or, in the life-threatening emergencies, Triple Zero (000).
