Man charged with alleged murder of woman in Bundeena

A man has been charged with murder and other offences following the death of a woman at Bundeena, in Sydney’s south, on the weekend, NSW Police say.

About 3.30pm on Sunday (24 April 2016), emergency services were called to a home on Beachcomber Avenue, Bundeena, where they located the body of a 51-year-old woman.

Police also located a 17-year-old male with an injured arm. He was taken to Sutherland Hospital for treatment.

Officers from Sutherland Local Area Command and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad launched an investigation into the incident.

About 5pm on Monday (25 April 2016), a 51-year-old man, who police will allege was the woman’s former partner, was arrested on Wallace Street, Braidwood, following a pursuit with police.

He was taken to Queanbeyan Police Station before being transported to Queanbeyan Hospital for treatment of a broken jaw and a neck injury.

He was later taken to Canberra Hospital for specialised treatment of these injuries and held under police guard.

About 2.30pm today, the man appeared before the ACT Magistrates Court by virtue of a NSW arrest warrant and was remanded into the custody of NSW Police Force detectives.

The man was taken to Queanbeyan Police Station and charged with murder, assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and contravene apprehended domestic violence order.

He was formally refused bail and will appear before Queanbeyan Local Court tomorrow.
