Man charged with Armed Robbery, TAS

Police have this morning charged a 25-year-old Bridgewater man with armed robbery after an incident at the Big Bargain Bottle Shop on Main Road at Claremont last night, Tasmania Police say.

It will be alleged that at 7:45pm on Monday evening, a man wearing a balaclava and a hooded jumper entered the bottle shop armed with a knife and demanded that staff hand over the contents of the till.  The staff member handed over a sum of cash and the offender then fled the scene.

Police searched for the alleged offender and located him at a Hotel in the Bridgewater area.  The man was arrested and transported to the Hobart Police Station and was later charged with armed robbery and driving offences.  He will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court today.

Police would like to thank members of the public who have assisted with their inquiries and would like to speak to anyone who may have seen an older model gold coloured Mitsubishi Magna in the Claremont area at around 7:45 pm.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Glenorchy CIB on 61732881 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
