Man charged with assault offence in Coogee

Police have charged a 36-year-man with an assault offence following an altercation outside a hotel in Sydney’s east overnight, NSW Police say.

Emergency services were called to Coogee Bay Road, Coogee, about 11.45pm following reports a man had been assaulted.

Police were told the man had been approached by another man who allegedly punched him, causing him to fall to the roadway.

The 38-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics for cuts to his head before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital where he is currently in a stable condition. .

Police stopped a taxi nearby a short time later and arrested the passenger, a 36-year-old man, who was taken to Maroubra Police Station.

He was charged with reckless grievous bodily harm and will be appearing at Waverley Local Court on Wednesday 7 September 2016.

Inquiries into the incident are continuing and anyone who witnessed the incident should contact police.
