A Griffith man has been charged with several property and driving offences in the state's south.
About 8.30am on Friday 17 July 2026, police observed an allegedly stolen BMW sedan travelling on Brayne Road, Griffith.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle, and when it failed to do so, a pursuit was initiated.
During the pursuit, the sedan allegedly reached speeds more than 100km/h in a signposted 50km/h zone.
The pursuit was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns. Police attached to Murrumbidgee Police District commenced inquiries into the vehicle and the driver.
Following inquiries, about 9pm yesterday (Wednesday 22 July 2026), police attended a home on Noorla Street, Griffith, and arrested an 18-year-old man.
He was taken to Griffith Police station and charged with six offences including:
- Dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception
- Be carried in conveyance taken w/o consent of owner
- Enter vehicle or boat without consent of owner
- Police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously
- Never licensed person drive vehicle on road
- Drive conveyance taken w/o consent of owner
Police will allege the man also stole fuel from a Griffith Petrol station while travelling in a stolen Kia SUV on Thursday 9 July 2026.
The 18-year-old man was refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Court 5 today (Thursday 23 July 2026), where he was refused bail to appear before Griffith Local Court on Wednesday 29 July 2026.
