Man Charged With DV, Traffic Offenses in Lightning Ridge

A man has faced court in the state's north-west after being charged with DV-related and traffic offences.

Officers attached to Central North Police District saw a 21-year-old man - who was wanted for three outstanding warrants – driving in Lightning Ridge about 12pm on Friday 22 May 2026.

Police arrested the man at a service station on Opal Street, Lightning Ridge.

The vehicle was searched, with officers seizing methylamphetamine, 20 rounds of .22 calibre ammunition, a slingshot, a knife and a balaclava.

The man also allegedly refused a roadside breath test.

He was taken to Walgett Police Station where he was charged with 12 offences,

  • Contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic)
  • Fail to appear in accordance with bail acknowledgment
  • Police pursuit - not stop - drive at speed
  • Hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty
  • Affray
  • Refuse or fail to submit to breath test
  • Refuse or fail to submit to breath analysis
  • Not comply P1 licence-no P plates (class C)
  • Use unregistered registrable Class C motor vehicle on road
  • Use uninsured motor vehicle on road
  • Owner use vehicle on road/road related area motor vehicle tax unpaid, and
  • Licence expired within the last two years.

He was refused bail and faced Bail Division Court 4 on Saturday 23 May 2026, where he was formally refused bail to reappear before Lightning Ridge Local Court on Wednesday 27 May 2026.
