Man charged with escape police custody in Cranebrook

Penrith Police have charged a man who allegedly attempted to escape police custody following a reported break enter and steal in Cranebrook, NSW Police say.

About 7.10am today, police attended Mcgann Place, Cranebrook, as part of investigations into a break enter and steal offence last month.

Whilst police were escorting the 20-year-old man to the police caged truck, the man allegedly pulled free from police and ran away. A foot pursuit followed.

During the pursuit two police officers were injured. One of the officers sustained grazing to his hand and knee during the arrest.

The other officer fell during the pursuit and suffered severe pain to his arms and ribs. He was conveyed to hospital for treatment.

The 20-year-old man was taken to Penrith Police Station and charged with break enter and steal and escape police custody.

He was bail refused to appear at Penrith Local Court on Tuesday 23 August 2016.
