Man charged with firearm and domestic violence offences, NSW

A man will face court today charged with firearm offences following an alleged domestic violence incident at a home in the Hunter Valley, NSW Police say.

About 11pm today, officers attached to Hunter Valley Local Area Command attended a property on Inlet Road, Bulga, following reports of a domestic violence incident.

Police have been told a 36-year-old man and 26-year-old woman had become involved in an argument earlier that day, before a physical altercation allegedly took place.

A short time later, it will be alleged the man took a 22 magnum rifle from the verandah and fired a single shot into a vehicle window, before removing a second .303 rifle from a safe.

Police attended the property and located the .303 rifle, which was seized. The .22 magnum rifle was unable to be located.

The man was arrested and taken to Muswellbrook Police Station where he was charged with stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm, possess unregistered firearm, not keep firearm safely, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit, armed with intent to commit indictable offence.

He was refused bail to appear at appear at Muswellbrook Local Court tomorrow.

Inquiries into the missing firearm are continuing.
