Man charged with firearms offences in Lake Illawarra

A man has been charged with firearms offences in Lake Illawarra yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 7.40pm today, police from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command were called to a home in Little Lake Crescent, Warilla, responding to a concern for welfare.

During a search of the home officers allegedly located an unsecured firearm and ammunition. The firearm and ammunition have been seized and will be forensically examined.

Following inquiries, a 31-year-old man was later arrested at the scene and was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station.

He was charged with possess unregistered firearm and possess ammunition.

The man was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today tomorrow.
