A man has been charged with domestic violence and firearms offences in Sydney's Inner West.
On Tuesday (27 January 2026), officers attached to Leichardt Police Area Command commenced an investigation after receiving a report of alleged domestic violence and firearms offences.
Following inquiries, yesterday (Wednesday 29 January 2026), officers attended a home on Perry Street, Lilyfield, where police allegedly located two unsecured firearms behind a cupboard. A crime scene was established, and a search warrant was executed.
During the search, police located and seized 15 firearms, five of which were allegedly unregistered, ammunition and several firearm parts.
A 70-year-old man was arrested at the address and taken to Newtown Police Station.
He was charged with;
- Possess unregistered firearm-prohibited firearm (5 counts),
- Fail to certify arrangements comply with Act/Regulation,
- Not notify of arrangements for safe keeping of firearms,
- Not notify firearm safe keeping arrangements at new address,
- Not keep firearm safely-not pistol/prohibited firearm (2 counts),
- Holder of Category A or B licence not have approved storage (2 counts), and
- Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (domestic).
Police will allege in court that the man - a registered NSW firearms licence holder - transferred multiple firearms from the registered address in Manly Vale to the unregistered address in Lilyfield, failing to comply with the licence conditions and arrangements for safe keeping of firearms.
He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 6 later today (Thursday 29 January 2026).
