Man charged with high range drink driving in Griffith

Police have charged a man with high range drink driving after he was arrested near Griffith earlier today, NSW Police say.

About 10.15am today (Thursday 11 January 2018) a 43-year-old man was allegedly observed trying to alight from his Holden Commodore utility in Douglas Street at Narrandera.

Ambulance paramedics attended to check on the man’s welfare and police also attended.

Officers from Griffith Local Area Command attended and conducted a roadside breath test which the man failed.

He was arrested and conveyed to Narrandera Police Station where he underwent a breath analysis returning an alleged reading of 0.235.

The man was charged with driving with the high range prescribed concentration of alcohol (HRPCA).

He will appear at Narrandera Local Court on Tuesday 23 January 2018.

Inspector Wayne McLachlan from Griffith Police said police were extremely disappointed that drivers continue to put not only their own lives at risk but also all other members of the community who use the road network.

"This man chose to drive a considerable distance, allegedly, with the high range concentration of alcohol in his system.

"It is only luck that has prevented another fatality on our roads.

"We implore motorists to make safe choices when driving, and be mindful of those around them," Inspector McLachlan said.
