Man charged with manslaughter after fatal crash, TAS

A 44 year old Wynyard man has been arrested and charged with Manslaughter following an investigation by police from Northern Crash Investigation Services, Tasmania Police say.

The charges come following a fatal motor vehicle crash on the Midland Highway near Perth on 18 December 2016 which claimed the life of a 53 year old Kings Meadows man.

Police allege that the Kings Meadows man was killed when a gold Ford sedan driven by the Wynyard man at high speed crossed onto the incorrect side of the road and collided with the silver Kia wagon that he was driving.

While the Wynyard man narrowly escaped serious injury, the deceased man’s family were his passengers and several of them sustained serious injuries.

The man appeared in the Launceston Magistrates Court yesterday afternoon and was bailed to reappear on 9 June.
