Man charged with multiple vehicle thefts across Queensland

Police have charged a 30-year-old man following investigations into a string of offences including car thefts, traffic crashes and property crime spanning from Cairns to Brisbane in the past two weeks, Queensland Police say.

It will be alleged between December 12 and 22, the Edmonton man stole multiple vehicles and petrol and was involved in four traffic crashes in Cairns, Brisbane, Wide Bay, Gladstone and Rockhampton.

It will be further alleged, on December 21, one of the stolen vehicles was involved in a serious traffic crash with a motorcycle on Gin Gin Road in Bundaberg. The driver fled the scene. The 65-year-old male motorcycle rider was trasnported to Bundaberg Base Hospital with life threatening head injuries and multiple broken ribs and a punctured lung.

Police arrested the man on December 22 after he allegedly broke into a house and attempted to steal a vehicle at a property at Canoona, north of Rockhampton.

The man has been charged with 34 offences including one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm, four counts each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and stealing, three counts of dangerous operation of motor vehicle, and two counts each of entering a premises to commit an indictable offence and burglary and committing an indictable offence.

He appeared in Bundaberg Magistrates Court this morning and was remanded in custody to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on February 27.
