Man charged with robbing and indecently assaulting woman in Tamworth

A man has been charged after he allegedly robbed and indecently assaulted a woman in Tamworth on Sunday, NSW Police say.

About 2.30am (27 November 2016), a 36-year-old woman left a licensed premises and walked along Brisbane Street towards Carthage Street.

A man unknown to the woman began to follow her, before he allegedly indecently assaulted her.

The woman attempted to get away from the man, when the man allegedly took her handbag and fled the scene.

The woman contacted police and was treated at the scene by Ambulance Paramedics for minor injuries.

Officers from Oxley Local Area Command commenced investigations and following inquiries, about 3pm today, an 18-year-old man was arrested at a home on Petra Avenue, South Tamworth.

He was charged with indecent assault and robbery. The man was refused bail, to appear at Tamworth Local Court tomorrow.
