Man charged with solicit to murder - Fixated Persons Investigation Unit, NSW

Officers from the Fixated Persons Investigation Unit have charged a man who allegedly called for the murder of police officers in an online video, NSW Police say.

Police will allege a series of abusive posts had been lodged about various police organisations and the judiciary over a considerable period, before the online video was posted last week.

In the video, the man allegedly outlined plans to kill police officers and encouraged others to do the same.

The Fixated Persons Investigations Unit (FPIU) successfully applied for warrants for the arrest of a 37-year-old man from northern NSW.

About 1.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 6 December 2017), the man was arrested by Queensland Police Service officers in Brisbane’s CBD and charged by virtue of the arrest warrants.

He appeared in the Brisbane Magistrate’s Court this afternoon, where an extradition application was heard.

The magistrate remanded the man into the custody of NSW Police, to appear at Lismore Local Court tomorrow (Friday 8 December 2017).

The man is now en route to Lismore Police Station where he will be charged with solicit to murder (endeavour to persuade), and send threatening document to kill.

A search warrant was executed at a property near Kyogle yesterday (7 December 2017), where a number of items were seized for forensic examination.

The Fixated Persons Investigation Unit was established in April this year and focuses on the detection, intervention and prevention of so-called ‘lone actor’ and ‘fixated person’ threats across the state.
