Police have charged a 34 year-old Sandy Bay man and clamped his car after he was detected speeding 100km/h above the posted speed limit near Liawenee yesterday.
Around 4:30pm, Liawenee police detected a blue Honda Civic on Highland Lakes Road at Steppes, travelling at 202km/h in the 100km/h speed zone, Tasmania Police say.
The driver was intercepted by police, had his vehicle clamped for 28 days, and was charged with operating a vehicle in public place in an unnecessary execution of speed, acceleration or loss of traction and exceeding the speed limit. He was bailed to appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.
"Police would like to remind drivers that speeding is one of the ‘Fatal Five’ contributing factors to fatal and serious crashes," said First Class Constable Midson.
"Drivers travelling at speeds such as this are unnecessarily putting themselves and other road users at risk."
