Man charged with vandalising train after drugs and paint cans seized at home in Newcastle

A man has been charged after drugs and spray paint were found at his Maryvale home, following investigations into a graffiti attack on a train this week, NSW Police say.

About 7am on Sunday (12 February 2017), officers from the Police Transport Command attended Hamilton Railway Station following reports of a graffiti attack on a train.

About 12.20pm on Wednesday (15 February 2017), following investigations, officers from the Police Transport Command executed a search warrant at a home on The Lane, Maryvale.

At the home, officers allegedly seized a number of spray paint cans, drugs believed to be ecstasy and prescription medication, cameras and other items. All items will undergo forensic examinations.

A 22-year-old man was arrested at the home and taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with supply prohibited drugs, possess prohibited drugs and malicious damage.

He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 2 March 2017.
