Man critically injured after fight at Hurstville

A man is on life support and four others are assisting investigators following an affray at a hotel in Sydney's south this morning.

Officers from St George Police Area command have been told two groups of men were drinking at the hotel on Forest Road, Hurstville, when an argument has begun about 3.15am (Saturday 21 March 2020).

The incident escalated with two men running from the hotel then falling 3m down a grass embankment on Railway Parade.

Emergency services were called and found a 23-year-old man in the gutter with a severe head injury; he was taken to St George Hospital and police have been told he is on life support in a critical and unstable condition.

A 24-year-old man was found nearby suffering facial injuries and has been admitted to the same hospital for treatment.

A crime scene was established and inquiries are now underway into the circumstances leading up to the men being injured.

Three men, friends of the injured men, were arrested at the scene and remain at Kogarah Police Station. No charges have yet been laid as detectives continue to collate witness statements.

It's unknown if the two groups knew each other before the affray.
