Man died after boat overturned off North Haven, SA

One man has died and another survived after their boat overturned in the Gulf St Vincent yesterday, according to SA Police.

Police commenced a search of the waters off Semaphore and North Haven after two men in a boat were reported overdue from a fishing trip last night.

The men, aged 72 and 44, launched their 5.5m boat from the West Beach boat ramp for a fishing trip early Sunday morning.

They were reported overdue to police just after 7pm last night, after family members became concerned for their welfare.

Police Water Operations commenced a search last night using a police boat, helicopter (PolAir) and Coast Guard volunteers in the Gulf St Vincent.

The men's boat was spotted by PolAir, overturned, just before 1.30am. The volunteer Coast Guard went out to the boat to rescue the men.

Sadly, the 72-year-old man was deceased and his body was recovered by Water Operations Police. The 44-year-old man was taken to the West Beach boat ramp, then to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for observation.

The boat has been recovered and returned to North Haven.

Police will be preparing a report for the Coroner.
