Man died as result of injuries sustained in ATV crash on 20 January

Sadly police can confirm a 35-year-old Warrane man has died as a result of injuries he sustained in an all-terrain vehicle crash on private property last month.

The man was riding the quad bike on private property at Brinktop Road at Richmond, when the crash occurred around 2:30am on 20 January 2019. A female passenger of the bike was able to jump clear and was not seriously injured.

The crash appears to have occurred as the bike was being ridden up an incline when it lost control and tipped. It is believed that both occupants were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

Ambulance Tasmania attended the scene and transported the rider to the Royal Hobart Hospital with serious head injuries. He underwent surgery over the following days, however passed away as a result of his injuries on 29 January.

"It's important to remind all ATV riders and passengers of the inherent risks involved in the use of these vehicles," says Senior Constable Richard Keygan of Crash Investigations Services.

"The use of all-terrain vehicles does not come without risk, and a number of Tasmanians have been seriously injured and killed from ATV rollovers.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with the deceased man's family and loves ones."

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

The identity of the rider will not be released at this time.
