Man Dies After Brunswick Incident

Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident in Brunswick last week where a man became unresponsive following his arrest and subsequently died.

Officers were called to the intersection of Sydney Road and Albert Street about 9.30pm on Friday, 6 June to assist paramedics with an agitated man who subsequently became aggressive.

The 43-year-old Brunswick man left the paramedics and started to walk off along Sydney Road when he was arrested by police.

He was then loaded into an ambulance and subsequently became unresponsive whilst en route to hospital.

The man passed away in hospital last night (10 June).

Detectives from the Homicide Squad will investigate the incident with oversight from Professional Standards Command, as per standard practice where someone dies after being taken into police custody.
