Man Dies After Crash - Cataract

A man has died following a single vehicle crash in the Illawarra this morning.

About 9am today (Monday 9 February 2026), police were called to northbound lanes of the M1, on Mount Ousley Road, Cataract, south of Bellambi Creek, following reports a car left the roadway and struck a tree.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District responded and commenced CPR, before NSW Ambulance arrived and continued CPR; however the 60-year-old male driver died at the scene.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash has commenced.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
