A man has died after a unit block fire at Redfern this morning.
About 4am (Friday 2 August 2019) emergency services were called to the fire at the George Street complex
Approximately 45 people were evacuated from the complex and surrounding units.
A 50-year-old man's body was found by emergency services as they entered a third-storey unit
He was taken from the building and despite the best efforts of emergency services on site he was unable to be revived.
The fire-fighting operation continues and local road closures are in place.
Once the building has been declared safe, inquiries will begin into the cause of the fire.
