Man dies in diving incident near St Helens

Sadly, a man has died following a diving incident near St Helens Island at St Helens.

Police and emergency services, including the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, were called to the scene about 8.30am following a report of a diver in difficulty.

Inspector Michael Johnston said that A St Helens Marine Rescue vessel, transporting a local doctor and paramedics, were first on scene and helped render medical assistance until emergency services arrived a short time later.

Sadly, the man could not be revived.

Our thoughts are with the man's family and loved ones at this difficult time.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
