Man dies in forklift incident

A man in his late 40s died after he was crushed by a forklift load that slipped from its tynes at a machinery depot at Somerton, in Melbourne's north, on Saturday morning.

It is believed he was cutting a section of excavator track, which was being held by the forklift, when it slipped and pinned him between the track and the forklift's mast.

WorkSafe is investigating the incident.

The fatality brings the number of workplace deaths this year to 12, three more than at the same time last year.
