A man has died in hospital following a crash in Sydney's Inner West earlier this week.
About 5.30am on Tuesday 27 January 2026, emergency services were called to Maria Street, Petersham, following reports of a crash.
Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command arrived to find a Toyota hatchback had allegedly hit a pedestrian while reversing on the road.
The pedestrian – a 78-year-old man – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital with critical injuries.
The driver – a 32-year-old woman – was uninjured and was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for mandatory testing.
A crime scene was established and an investigation into the incident commenced.
Yesterday (Wednesday 28 January 2026), police were told the man died in hospital.
A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
Investigations into the incident are continuing.
