A pedestrian has died in hospital after he was hit by a garbage truck in North Sydney earlier this week.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of Walker Street and the Pacific Highway, North Sydney, just before 6am Tuesday (20 January 2026), after reports a pedestrian had been hit by a garbage truck.
Officers attached to North Shore Police Area Command attended along with NSW Ambulance.
The pedestrian, a 59-year-old man, was treated at the scene and taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious condition.
The truck driver was arrested and taken to hospital for mandatory testing before being released without charge.
A crime scene was established and specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit examined the scene.
Today (Thursday 22 January 2026), police were told the 59-year-old man had died in hospital.
A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
Investigations into the incident are continuing.
