Man dies in multi-vehicle crash near Newcastle, NSW

A man has died in a multi-vehicle crash near Newcastle today, NSW Police say.

About 3.50pm (Tuesday 21 August 2018), emergency services were called to the Stockton Bridge on Nelson Bay Road, Kooragang, following reports of a four-vehicle crash.

A Ford Falcon sedan collided with a Toyota Camry, heading southbound, before it hit an oncoming utility, which then collided with a sedan.

The utility caught fire and the driver, a man, suffered critical injuries. He died at the scene and has not been formally identified.

The driver of the Falcon sedan, a man, suffered injuries to his arm and was taken to John Hunter Hospital. He will undergo mandatory testing.

The drivers of the other two vehicles will also undergo mandatory testing at John Hunter Hospital.

Their ages are not known at this stage.

Officers from Newcastle City Police District established a crime scene as Crash Investigation Unit officers investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam vision of the incident is urged to come forward.
