Man Extradited to Face Historical GBH Charge

Acacia Ridge Criminal Investigations Branch has successfully extradited a man from Victoria following investigations into a historical grievous bodily harm incident.

It is alleged on 16 August 2008, the now 39-year-old Victorian man physically assaulted a now 38-year-old woman at an Oxley address.

The physical assault allegedly caused permanent significant damage to the woman's eye.

Police will further allege the pair were in a relationship at the time of the offence.

On 9 April 2022, the victim reported the matter to police.

A protracted investigation and close cooperation between Queensland Police and Victorian Police led to the man being served a summons before Brisbane Magistrates Court for one count of grievous bodily harm on 13 July 2023.

It will be alleged the man failed to appear at Court for the 4 September 2023 proceeding date.

Subsequently a warrant was issued for the man's arrest.

On 28 October, Victorian Police arrested the man in Werribee.

On 29 October he appeared in the Sunshine Magistrates Court where the extradition was approved, and he was subsequently extradited to Queensland last night.

The man is appearing before Brisbane Magistrates Court today, 30 October.

Acacia Ridge Criminal Investigations Branch Officer in Charge, Acting Senior Sergeant Denis Silk says police will thoroughly investigate any reported domestic violence offence, regardless of how many years have passed.

"Regardless of whether domestic violence is happening right now, or occurred almost two decades ago, police are committed to following all lines of enquiry to obtain justice for victims."

"There is no place for domestic violence - and police are committed to continue taking strong action against anyone found to commit offences of this serious nature."
