A 28-year-old man has died after being buried in soil at the base of a dry dam at a property in East Gippsland.
It is believed the man was working alone, excavating a trench at the base of the dam when it collapsed on him late on Monday. He was found dead at the scene on Tuesday.
WorkSafe is investigating the death which occurred on a farm at Gelantipy, about 50km north of Buchan.
The fatality brings the number of workplace deaths this year to eight, which is one less than at the same time last year.
