Man in court over stabbing - West Wollongong

A man will face court today after allegedly stabbing another man in West Wollongong earlier this month.

About 9pm on Monday 5 May 2020, emergency services attended a unit complex in Phillips Avenue after receiving reports a man had been stabbed.

Police located a man suffering a stab wound to the chest and he was treated at the scene before being taken to Wollongong Hospital.

The 19-year-old man underwent emergency surgery and is currently recovering from his injuries.

Strike Force Edwin was established by detectives from Wollongong Police District to investigate the circumstances surrounding alleged stabbing.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators attended a unit complex on Myuna Way, Mangerton yesterday (Thursday 14 May 2020), and located a 27-year-old man hiding under a bed.

A crime scene warrant was executed, and a number of items seized for forensic examination.

He was arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station, where he was charged with wound with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The man was refused bail and is due to face Wollongong Local Court today (Friday 15 May 2020).

Inquiries are continuing.
