Police have commenced an investigation after a pedestrian was critically injured following a crash in Sydney's Inner West this morning.
About 5.30am (Tuesday 27 January 2026), emergency services were called to Maria Street, Petersham, following reports of a crash.
Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command arrived to find a Toyota hatchback had hit a pedestrian while reversing on the road.
The pedestrian – a 78-year-old man – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital with critical head injuries.
The driver – a 32-year-old woman – was uninjured and also taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for mandatory testing.
Police have established a crime scene with investigations commencing into the incident.
